Funding Success with The National Lottery Community Fund!

Woo Hoo ! We are celebrating today after being awarded £80,000 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

Investment from the National Lottery Fund has come at a crucial time for Jack Drum Arts with rising costs due to the cost of living crisis. The funding secured will be used to support our core running costs enabling the team to continue providing a wide range of health and wellbeing activities to support the many individuals in the local community who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and are also now facing increased worries about the cost of living.

Through our open access activities focusing on health and wellbeing Jack Drum Arts supports local people to overcome a range of barriers to participate in cultural activities, prioritising provision for people living alone, bereaved, in poor health and those on low income. We work with all ages and abilities but have a specific focus on children, young people and families and individuals with poor mental and/or physical health.

We are hugely grateful to Durham Community Action for their support who provided us with a small development grant and acted as a critical friend helping us to think creatively and tackle the challenges ahead. Susan Tron, DCA, said: “I have known this organisation for many years and they have been hugely successful in meeting the needs of their community.”

One of our participants Noreen said: “Since I began my journey with Jack Drum Arts life feels a little easier... even when difficult situations arise. I'm more likely to say YES to the things I would have normally ran a mile from. And it's great to see my daughter's confidence building by getting involved, being part of something that brought many smiles to so many faces.”

Chair of the Board of Directors, Michele Armstrong said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can continue to place our community at the heart of all our work driven by a programme of support, services, activities, and volunteering opportunities for local people, improving wellbeing whilst building community cohesion and pride. This funding will make a big difference to people’s lives.”
