Growing Green Music
Growing Green Music is a 3 year, Youth Music funded project running from January 2023 to January 2026, offering music-making activities, events, performance opportunities, skills development, trips, mental health support and cultural enrichment to young people in the region.
Sessions include:
Collective Music Making (Fridays 5pm till 7pm, ages 12+)
Our in-house Rock Band ‘Jazzy Dystopia’ meet weekly in term time to write and perform original music in a band setting, take their compositions to the recording studio, and find performance opportunities in venues around the region and beyond!
Latin American Carnival Music (Tuesdays 6:30pm till 8pm, ages 10+)
Join our youth samba band ‘Get Set Samba’ on Tuesday evenings during term time, and get to grips with the incredible groove of Brazilian Samba Reggae, pick up some new skills, and prepare to join the band as they gig at parades and events everywhere!
Brass Ensemble
We’re looking for enthusiastic young brass players interested in joining an exciting new brass ensemble to collaborate with groups across the country! Working with Redhills CIO (County Durham) Soothsayers (London) and Oi Musica (Edinburgh) this series of masterclass sessions will celebrate and bring new energy to the powerful legacy of brass in County Durham, whilst exploring brass techniques and genres from across the country and the world.
Additional Support
As part of our programme we also offer mentorship, mental health check-ins, and opportunities for young people to progress with access to careers advice, information and signposting. Young people who are interested can also participate in our youth leadership programme, gaining hands on industry experience.
B.O.P Fest
The flagship event of the year for Growing Green Music is B.O.P. Fest! Our annual Family Friendly award winning music festival focused on sustainability and climate change, which is led and co-produced by young participants and the Jack Drum Arts Youth Board.
